TikTok has responded to reports that US President Donald Trump plans to ban the video App in the United States.
Recall that Newsbreakers reported that President Trump, while flying home from Florida on Friday evening, had disclosed that he could sign an executive order to ban TikTok in the United States as early as Saturday, August 1.
The intelligence community had warned that the app, owned by Chinese firm ByteDance, could be used to collect the personal data of Americans.
However, TikTok has revealed that it is “here for the long run”. In a video shared on Twitter on Saturday, TikTok U.S. General Manager Vanessa Pappas thanked the “millions of Americans who use TikTok every day bringing their creativity and joy into our daily lives.”
She said, “We’re not planning on going anywhere,” Pappas said. “TikTok is a home for creators and artists to express themselves, their ideas, and connect with people across different backgrounds and we are so proud of all the various communities that call TikTok their home.”
