League Leaders Everton held the reigning English Premier League (EPL) Champions, Liverpool, to a 2-2 draw at Goodison Park on Saturday, October 17.

Liverpool opened the scoring through Sadio Mane’s goal from Robertson’s assist. Everton were lucky not to concede a penalty and go down to 10 men within the first fifteen minutes. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford clumsily brought down Virgil van Dijk after Fabinho lofted the ball back into the box from a corner and was rescued by the offside flag against the Liverpool centre-back. Van Dijk subsequently limped off to be replaced by Joe Gomez.

Michael Keane scored the equalizer after he headed in a corner from James Rodriguez. Mohamed Salah then put the Reds ahead with his 100th goal for Liverpool before Dominic Calvert-Lewin brought the game level. Richarlison was then sent off late in the game for a rash challenge on Thiago Alcantara.

Liverpool thought they had scored the winner when Henderson’s weak effort was fumbled by Pickford. However, VAR adjudged that Mane was offside in the build-up to the goal.

Everton remains top of the table with thirteen points from five games. Liverpool are currently second on the table after picking up ten points from five games.
