Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has waded into the brewing crisis in the nation’s power sector to forestall drastic action by electricity distribution companies who are seeking to raise tariff.

The executive director of the Association of National Electricity Distributors (ANED) together with executive officers of power distribution companies stated that the electricity tariff approved by Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission does not make adequate provision for operational cost.

Consequently; this has the distribution companies (Discos) negatively, causing some of them to declare force majeure after incurring losses since they took over the power companies.

In July, the Yola Electricity Distribution Company was taken over by the Federal Government after Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing Company, the core investor in the firm, declared a force majeure.
