Mr. Charles Ugwu, a former Minister of Commerce and Industry, has emerged the Imo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state Congress held at Kanu Nwankwo Soccer Centre, Owerri, the state capital, on Saturday.

It was gathered that the former state Acting Chairman of the party, Martins Ejiogu and Ray Emeana were returned as deputy chairman and secretary respectively.

According to the electoral committee chairman, Uzor Azubuike, the total number of votes cast was 262. The candidates contested for 39 offices, including that of the organizing secretary where Mr. Lawrence Biaduo was returned.

The newly elected chairman gave his acceptance speech after the whole process. He thanked the delegates for finding him worthy of the position and promised to use his wealth of knowledge to propel the party to a greater height.
