How to stop automatically open new tab in chrome

There are a few ways to stop Chrome from automatically opening a new tab when you click on a link:

Method 1: Disable the "Open new tab" option

  1. Click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the Chrome browser window.
  2. Click on "Settings" from the drop-down menu.
  3. Scroll down to the "Appearance" section.
  4. Uncheck the box next to "Open new tab" under "Tabs".
  5. Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.

Method 2: Use the Chrome flag

  1. Type chrome://flags in the address bar and press Enter.
  2. Search for "Open new tab" in the search bar.
  3. Click on the toggle button next to "Open new tab" to disable it.
  4. Relaunch Chrome to apply the changes.

Method 3: Use an extension

  1. Search for "Disable new tab" or "Stop new tab" in the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Install an extension that allows you to disable the automatic opening of new tabs, such as "New Tab Blocker" or "Stop New Tab".
  3. Follow the extension's instructions to configure the settings.

Method 4: Use a shortcut

  1. Press the "Ctrl" key (or "Cmd" key on a Mac) while clicking on a link to open it in the same tab instead of a new tab.

Note: If you want to disable the automatic opening of new tabs only for specific websites or links, you can use a browser extension like "Link Manager" or "Tab Manager" to customize the behavior.
