Banks have advised their customers to remove their face masks when using the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) to allow proper face recognition.

The installation of face detection by some banks may hinder an ATM from dispensing cash if it doesn’t recognize the user’s face.

Despite this though, the banks still maintain that customers must wear their face masks before entering the banking halls.

Fidelity Bank sent a mail to its customers which read, “Wearing of face masks is a safety and precautionary measure we must all adhere to in this period of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we advise that you remove your face mask while making withdrawals or carrying out ATM transactions to allow our ATM to properly recognize you.”

It added, “Fidelity Bank ATM machines have face detection features installed to curb incidences of fraudulent ATM withdrawals. Consequently, you may not be able to carry out any transaction if our ATMs are not able to properly recognize you. We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause you.”
