The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Uyo, on Saturday directed Senate Minority Leader, Godwill Akpabio to open his defence in a petition filed against his victory as a senator.
Akpabio had earlier informed the tribunal that he was not ready to open his defence before the tribunal.
However, his prayer for a week grace to enable him get his witnesses ready to testify before the tribunal was challenged by lawyer to the petitioner, Chief Assam Assam (SAN).
It would be recalled that All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the North-West Senatorial district, Chief Inibehe Okori had gone to the National Assembly tribunal, questioning the conduct of the election and declaration of Godswill Akpabio as winner.
The tribunal, presided over by Justice Goddy Anunihu, ordered Akpabio to open his defence on September 9, 2015 or face the consequences.
