The list of the chairmen of the Senate Committee has finally been released by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki. The list shows that the leading opposition party, PDP, will head 24 Senate Committees, while the ruling party, APC has 41.
The list also shows that the Acting Spokesman of the Senate, Senator Dino Malaye, has been moved to the FCT Committee. The list of the Committee Chairmen is not without some surprises as the Senate President, in an apparent overture to his opponents in the Senate, allotted some of the Grade A committees to his perceived “opponents” such as Ahmed Lawan, who chairs the senate committee on defence, and George Akume, who chairs the committee on army.
Here are the other names on list: Media and Publicity Committee to be chaired by Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, a PDP Senator from Abia South who was the spokesman of the seventh senate.
Agriculture, Abdullahi Adamu (APC), Army by George Akume (APC), Anti-corruption by Utazi Godfrey (PDP), Appropriation by Danjuma Goje (APC), Aviation by Hope Uzodinma (PDP), Capital Market by Isiaka Adeleke, ”Žand Culture and Tourism by Urhoghide Matthew (PDP).
Others are Customs and Excise by Adamu Aliero (APC), Defence, Ahmad Lawan (APC), Drugs and Narcotics Joshua Lidani (PDP), Basic and Secondary Education Aliyu Wamakko (APC), Finance, John Enoh (PDP), Foreign Affairs Monsurat Sunmonu (APC), Health Adeyemi Tejuoso (APC), ICT Abdulfatai Buhari (APC), INEC Abubakar Kyari, Information and National Orientation Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP),”Ž Land Transport ”ŽGbenga Ashafa (APC) and”Ž marine transport Ahmed Sani (APC).
Other committees are: Public Procurement by Mohammed Ohiare (APC), National Identity by Kabiru Marafa (APC),”Ž Police Affairs by Abu Ibrahim (APC), Power by James Manager (PDP), Privatisation by Ben-Murray Bruce, ”ŽScience and Technology by Robert Boroffice”Ž (APC), States and Local Government by Abubakar Gumel (APC), Trade and Investment by”Ž Fatimat Raji-Rasaki (PDP), Water Resources Mohammed Shittu (APC), Women Affairs: Oluremi Tinubu and”Ž Poverty Alleviation Ali Wakil”Ž (APC).
