To assist in the fight against Boko Haram attacks, the Federal Government has started constructing a fence of 27.3km for the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).

Initially, according to Dr. Dani Mamman, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), only the Southern and Western parts of the university are enclosed by a fence.

However, the new 27.3km fence, which is valued at N64bn, will be helping to protect the Northeastern part of the campus, which has been a point of penetration for the Boko Haram terrorists in the past.

According to Dr. Dani Mamman, “the UNIMAID perimeter fence is still being constructed. The Federal Government approved N64bn for the construction of 27.3-kilometre perimeter fence for UNIMAID. That place is very porous.”
