Abuja division of the Court of Appeal has granted speedy hearing into the appeal initiated by President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki.
He is specifically challenging the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal to preside over the charges of false asset declaration preferred against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
The appellate court, presided over by Justice Moore Adumein adjourned the matter till October 16, 2015 for definite hearing.
It would be recalled that the Code of Conduct Tribunal presided over by Justice Danladi Umar, had on September 22, set aside October 21, 22 and 23 for trial shortly after Saraki pleaded not guilty to the 13 counts of false asset declaration on September 22.
In his Notice of Appeal, the Senate President wants the Appeal Court to issue a declaration that the Code of Conduct Tribunal lacks the competence to entertain the charges and also seeks an order quashing them.
