The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that twenty-three people died when a petrol tanker exploded on Wednesday morning in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.

The accident which occurred along Felele – Nataco axis of Abuja – Lokoja road involved five cars, one tanker, three tricycles, and two motorcycles.

Among the casualties were Kogi State Polytechnic students and Primary School pupils as well as a family of six.

Eleven bodies have been claimed by relatives, while the rest are in the Kogi State Specialist morgue.

Kogi State Government has offered its condolences to those who knew the victims.
